The Dr. O Method

Dr. O’s approach to Non-Surgical Pain Management

The Dr. O Method
is a unique type of treatment for pain management that Dr. O has developed herself from years compiling knowledge and experience. The Dr. O Method™ utilizes a combination of minimally invasive procedures performed under ultrasound and fluoroscopic guidance, coupled with attentive examinations and detailed diagnoses to treat pain at its source. Dr. O prides herself in getting to the heart of the matter and treating all kinds of pain with remedies made to last. Whether it is a muscle you have torn at the gym or chronic back pain from a past procedure, Dr. O has seen it all and has been able to give real, lasting treatment.

Here, at the Dr. O Method ™, Dr. Iffie Okoronkwo is the only physician who will be diagnosing you and treating you. Dr. O wants your treatment to be consistent and thorough.

Diagnosis First

Dr. O’s approach is diagnostic based, meaning she believes in getting the whole story. This involves a thorough examination as well as an extensive discussion of medical history and lifestyle wellness. Dr. O knows that to get to the root of pain she has to know the full story and understand how a patient does the things that they do in their everyday life. When the root of pain is treated, instead of just the symptom, the treatment is far more effective and long-lasting.

Dr. O wants to work with you to build the right treatment program that fits all of your needs.

Your Non Surgical Treatment Options

The Dr. O Method is diagnostic based practice. If you chose to work with Dr. O, your first appointment will include a thorough examination as well as an extensive inquiry into your medical history and the history of your pain and/or problem. She wants to hear your story and will spend the time and energy to get to know you and work with you to figure out a successful treatment plan.

  • If your muscles are in spasm for a long period of time—whether from supporting an injury or just bad posture—they can get frozen. The layer of tissue surrounding the muscles, fascia, becomes tight. Treatment often requires physically releasing these hardened knots of muscle. These knots are what we call “trigger points,” as often touching these points triggers pain. It is under these circumstances that Dr. O uses trigger point injections to help release these chronically tightened muscles. Trigger point injections use various types of fluid to release the knots. Patients usually feel instant relief from tightness after the muscle has been released!

  • Peptides, the building blocks of proteins, help our bodies function in endless ways. They have the power to regenerate new tissue, reduce damage to existing tissue, heal wounds and scarring, and so much more. Dr. O will use specific peptides in combination with your treatments. Peptides aid your body so it can start to repair at the cellular level.

  • PRP or platelet-rich plasma is a serum made by concentrating the platelets from your very own blood! Platelets are cells in your blood that orchestrate healing after injury. By separating the platelets from the other cells in our blood and concentrating them, your body’s own healing powers get magnified and can help repair all kinds of tissue, like torn muscles, and torn tendons, and even eliminate wrinkles. Using PRP is the most natural way to help heal injury without surgery because all of the healing comes from you!

  • Regenerative (mesenchymal) cells are the basis of the healing and growth processes of our bodies. They are the main building blocks for repairing lost or injured tissue. Dr. O acquires mesenchymal cells, either from your own body’s natural supply or from a lab’s supply of cells, and injects them into areas of degeneration and injury, or areas of tissue loss, as in aging wrinkled skin! The regenerative (mesenchymal) cells immediately get to work replacing and rejuvenating the lost cells and structure. Regenerative cells may grow back tendon, fill in a muscle tear, decrease pain and inflammation in arthritic joints and much more.

*The use of these products is not FDA-approved, thus not covered by insurance. As with all procedures results are not guaranteed and all claims are anecdotal.

  • The joints in the spine, called facet joints, are like any other joint in your body. Facet joints can get inflamed and become degenerative from trauma or repetitive strain. This often takes the form of muscular pain, and back and neck pain. In this case, treating the joint is the only way to get rid of the pain and spasm. This treatment is done using fluoroscopy-guidence, where Dr. O precisely guides her needle to treat the joint pain.

  • If you have chronic neck pain and painful spasm, you may be approved for Botox® treatments to relieve that pain. Botox® is a muscle relaxer that can be used to treat pain caused by muscle tension. While massage therapy, physical therapy, and even some types of neck injections only provide temporary relief, Botox® injections with Dr. O could be a step towards a permanent solution.

  • In degenerative joints—whether from arthritis or repeated trauma—there is often a structural problem. Leading to painful and restrictive joint function. Not to fear! This is where medical gels (viscosupplementation) and Dr. O’s attention to detail can be of great help. Medical gels decrease pain, help smooth joint movement, and may make your joint motion pain-free. The gel is administered by Dr. O in 3-5 short sessions, with some patients feeling immediate relief.
